The Porsche 924 came out in 1976. It replaced the 914 as the company's entry level model, and was produced until 1988. It was the first Porsche in history to have a water cooled, front mounted engine with rear wheel drive. However, the 95hp Volkswagen/Audi engine was criticized by Porsche purists as lacking in power. In 1987, listening to the complaints, the company dropped the 150hp Porsche 944 motor in the 924's engine bay, and upgraded the brakes and the suspension. That changed completely the nature of the car. It was called the 924S. My 924S is a blast to drive. If you floor the gas pedal and let the revs build up towards the red line, that's when the fun starts. It runs like a Porsche, handles like a Porsche and sounds like a Porsche. The claimed top speed is 134mph. The engine and the transmission are very very strong. The engine doesn't smoke or leak oil. The previous owner had maintained the car meticulously. I have receips from the last 2 years (08-10) for $4070.00. The car has among other things: a new timing belt, new transmission, new clutch, new tires, new muffler, new cat. converter, new brakes, new battery, cooling system service and a recent complete tune-up. The body is very straight. No accidents, no dents and no rust anywhere. The car has always been garaged. The paint is original and in xint condition, although there are a couple of very minor dings in it that don't show in the pictures. The interior is also original and very good. The 924S is not a true classic yet, but it will be going up in value in the coming years, as all Porsches have done. This car could be a very good investment/everyday driver.
