1970 brought new front and rear end looks to the basic 1968 body, and it would prove to be another success. Updates included a new grille, leather seats, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes, and even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters. The 1970 Road Runner and GTX continued to be attractive and popular cars. The engine lineup was left unchanged although a heavy-duty three-speed manual became the standard transmission, relegating the four-speed to the option list along with the TorqueFlite automatic. The relatively popular 440 Six Barrel was relegated to option status for 1970. The 1969 "M" Code Edelbrock aluminum intake was replaced by a factory-produced cast iron piece; however, due to a porous casting, there was a recall early in the iron intake-equipped 440+6 run, and these were supposed to be replaced with the more-desirable Edelbrock intake from the year prior. Sales of the '70 Road Runner dropped by more than 50 percent over the previous year to around 41,000 units (about 1,000 ahead of Pontiac's GTO but still about 13,000 units behind Chevy's Chevelle SS-396/454). The car you see here started life as one of the most desirable '70 Plymouth Roadrunners on the road. It was optioned out with the rare 440 six pack with 4 speed manual transmission at a premium price point. The car retains a 440 Cu In V8 that has been rebuilt and runs great. It's connected to an automatic transmission that shifts with no problems. There has been a full roll cage installed along with thousands of dollars in upgrades to make the car what you see today. The car has been tubbed in the rear with a new narrow rear end. The body on the car is very solid with no rot or bubbling that we have found. The car was done many years ago but still retains its great condition today. All fenders and body panels are steel and solid. The paint on the car is in good condition with on major imperfections to speak of. The rear wing is steel but the hood is fiberglass. The interior is in good condition and appears to be mostly newer. The black carpet is in great condition along with the seats which show no major wear. There is no back seat. Door panels have been replaced with aluminum skins and there is a full roll cage installed. A Sport Comp 10,000 tach has been installed on the dash next to an oil pressure gauge, also from Sport Comp. Under the lift off hood, the motor is a true 440 Cu In V8 with double pumper 4 bbl Holley carb. This goes back to a 727 automatic transmission. The rear end is a Dana with shortened axles. In the carpeted trunk there is a fuel call in its own aluminum enclosure as well as a nitrous bottle and battery. The underside is solid and has been reinforced. There have been ladder bars installed in the rear. VIN number is RM23V0G139184 and the car is being sold on a clean Illinois title showing the previous owner has had the car since 2007.
