The coupe still looks good (especially in red), and that wonderful V8 rumble when you start it up could never get old. The manual transmission teamed with the V8 is the way to go — acceleration is satisfying, and with the traction control turned off, you actually get to drive the car without being isolated from the road, which is sadly the case with so many new cars these days. Steering input and brake pressure provide completely predictable results without any computers translating. Sure, the interior feels a little cheap, with basic controls and a bit too much plastic, but everything is within easy reach of the driver and simple to operate. Baby boomers who grew up with muscle cars and are now looking to recapture their youth would be wise to consider a new Mustang, instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction for a classic. – Perry Stern, , The roar of the exhaust note alone makes it worth owning the Mustang. Combine that with the aggressive styling and the powerful V8, and you have a match made in heaven. The Mustang is really a fun car to drive. There is always power on tap, and the engine is begging to be driven hard. Even with all the power, I was able to achieve 19 mpg in mixed driving. My major complaint is pointed at the pony car interior. I wish there were higher quality plastics around the dashboard and center console. Yet, Ford has definitely improved the interior from previous models. Another complaint: The gear shifter obscured the climate-control functions in fifth gear. But after driving this car for several hours, it was easy to forget these faults and focus on the great engine and driving experience the Mustang delivers. – Joe Chulick, , The Ford Mustang is brilliant. Every Ford I’ve driven recently has been truly world-class, and the Mustang is no exception. It’s straightforward and honest, exactly as a pony car should be. It is fun to drive and sounds fantastic, with an engine powerful enough to justify the noise it makes (unlike some cars I can think of). It is happy to drink regular unleaded fuel, rather than super. In my mind, that makes the fuel economy much more reasonable, because you’re spending less for every gallon, compared with the many competitors that claim to be more sophisticated and need high-octane fuel. Of course there’s no legroom in the “back seat,” but whenever I’ve been forced to sit back there for a short trip, I just sit twisted sideways and enjoy the noise instead of the comfort. The Ford Mustang is so much fun that if you own one you’ll never need to have a midlife crisis
